Thirteen major disasters from the year 2020 gather for a surreal tea ceremony around a fragile city made of sugar, slowly melting it away. Inspired by The Last Supper, each catastrophe is personified as a political figure, while humanity is portrayed by a silent bellboy. This darkly satirical performance reflects the absurdity of power, media desensitization, and our collective unraveling in the face of crisis.
2020 Heroes: the film
The film was shot at Château de Courances in collaboration with the Fonact School of Acting, over three shooting days and two additional days in Belgium. I created a story that personifies each event as a politician. The world is portrayed as a sugar city melting over a tea party — a setting that evokes a political summit where the fate of the world is discussed over tea, as though the world itself were merely a maquette and we, just pawns in their greater game.
The exhibition
Five years after COVID, I met the gallerist Camille Pouyfaucon, who wanted to revisit that period. She included me in her programme at her gallery in Paris’s 6th arrondissement, where the film alongside photographs and paintings from the project were showcased. All were available for sale.
